A Theological Analysis of Repentance in Luke-Acts
The late author had a strong view that failure to preach repentance undermines our view of God and faith in divine grace. The first chapters illustrate the ‘feasts of repentance’ in Luke-Acts; these are tripartite meetings between the members of which there are various interactions. For example, in the story of the Prodigal Son there is the father (representing Jesus in terms of his forgiveness), the younger son and the elder son, who experience repentance differently. The middle section explores in detail the distinction between repentance and faith with relation to Jews, Christians and pagan Gentiles. Finally the discussion moves to matters of modern pastoral theology. This is a deeply theological book which has to be read carefully, but has great rewards in understanding the concept of repentance and importance to our ministry. It is highly recommended.
