Each year, Church House Publishing produces a companion volume of reflections to augment the lectionary readings for Common Worship Daily Prayer, covering morning prayer, Monday to Saturday, each week of the year. These reflections are written by a large and impressive series of Anglican leaders, writers of the highest calibre who invariably bring original insights into biblical passages, whether familiar or unfamiliar.
This slim volume is essentially a ‘taster’ as we start the new Church Year: an opening extract from the main volume which just covers the season of Advent. It is, however, especially valuable, because (alas) it is often all too easy to lose the rhythm and discipline of the daily office during the hectic days before Christmas. This book will therefore encourage its readers in daily reflective habits, whether in solitary prayer or groups. Ponder these valuable insights and apply them during the days of watching and waiting.
The reflections are augmented by an introduction to Advent by Margaret Whipp, and an exhortation on how to build daily prayer into our lives from Bishop Rachel Treweek.
