Strategic Management in Church Leadership
The first thing to say is that I am not sure how many Readers will need this book. It is largely about long-term strategic management. Sadly, I fear, those who do will not find this oddly titled book particularly useful. Stephen Cottrell’s foreword gave me great hopes for this book, but they have been largely disappointed. A cover review describes this book as ‘usable and understandable’; I find it neither. It is repetitive and there is some contradiction. It espouses a theory called systems theory but, happily, does not apply it blindly. There are some good cases studies and some other nuggets, particularly in the later chapters. Elsewhere, you will have to pan a lot of river mud to find them, and I doubt whether many LLMs will want to go to the bother. It is written by an experienced Area Dean and, I guess, its target readership is at that level. It is not widely applicable at the volunteer level.
